Over the past few months members of the Menopaus’ull community have been sharing their thoughts, feelings, and lived experiences of menopause. These conversations have now been woven into a script for a new play commissioned by the Wellcome Trust.
As we move towards the premiere in October we are excited to invite you to take part in a series of creative workshops that will help shape the final production.
The first session will be taking place at Holderness House, Laburnam Avenue, Hull, HU8 8QX on Wednesday 17th June at 6pm and we would love for you to join us!
These sessions are a vital part of the process. Each workshop will include a scene read-through from the play with space for open feedback, reflection, and discussion. Your thoughts are not only welcomed – they are actively encouraged and will help shape how the story is told.
Alongside this we will also be exploring the creative design elements of the production. During previous workshops, many inspiring ideas have been shared around colour, texture, fabric, and objects that represent personal experiences of menopause. We would love to bring more of these ideas into the final design of the show – influencing costume choices, set design, lighting, and the overall visual world of the play.
This is your opportunity to help shape how menopause is seen, felt and represented on stage.
Don’t worry – no previous experience is needed!! You don’t need to be “creative” or have any background in theatre or design, just bring yourself. You are also very welcome to simply observe, listen or chat with us about the process if that feels more comfortable.
Each workshop will be informal, relaxed and welcoming with the option to be as involved as you wish.
Workshop 1: Exploration of Colour
In this first session we will be exploring colour, texture and material. A wide range of colours, fabrics and tactile materials will be provided for you to play with and respond to creatively.
Together, we will build a large collaborative mood board which will directly inform the creative direction of the production – including costume design, set colours and lighting choices.
This mood board will become a key reference point for the creative team and will continue to influence design decisions for each scene as the production develops.
There is a transition across the play where each of the characters experience different symptoms, emotions, failures and triumphs. It would be fantastic to gather how you would like to see those represented.
We will also include a scene reading and opportunity for group feedback as part of the session.
This session is FREE to attend but booking is required as spaces are limited – you can secure your spot here 17.06.26 – Join the Menopaus’ull team for an evening of creativity! – MNetwork
