October brings a vital focus to breast cancer awareness, reminding us that vigilance, self-care, and support are essential.
For those of us navigating perimenopause or menopause it’s an especially important time to pause and reflect. Hormonal changes can affect breast tissue and while many changes are natural being aware of what’s normal for you can make all the difference.

Awareness begins with small, consistent actions.
- Check your breasts monthly. It only takes a few minutes. Look for any new lumps, skin changes, nipple discharge, or persistent pain.
- Know your normal. Everyone’s breasts feel different, and they continue to change with age, weight, and hormones.
- Attend regular screenings. If you’re invited for a mammogram, don’t delay — early detection can be lifesaving.
- Talk about it. Conversations save lives. The more we share, the more others are reminded to check too.
