Following on from our first workshop, where we are exploring colour, texture and the emotional landscape of menopause, we are now moving into a more physical and imaginative stage of the creative process.
In this second workshop, we will begin shaping the objects and visual language that will sit within the production also giving a unique opportunity to help design a suspended installation that will form part of the set design.
We are inviting you to help us decide what the audience will see, feel, and connect with through carefully chosen props and objects that represent real lived experiences of menopause.
During the session, we will share a scene-by-scene overview of the play and invite your reflections, thoughts, and associations. We want to hear what images, objects, or symbolic items come to mind as you respond to each moment in the story.
For example, in one scene a character is delivering a professional presentation when she is suddenly hit by a hot flush. Despite feeling overwhelmed and physically uncomfortable she is forced to continue speaking in front of a room full of people. What objects, imagery, or sensory details do you associate with this moment? What would you expect to see suspended in the space that captures that feeling?
These responses will directly inform the props and visual elements used in the production — many of which will be created or co-designed during the workshops and installed within the performance space.
As always we will provide an open space for feedback and discussion. You are welcome to contribute ideas, respond to what you hear or simply listen and reflect. There is no pressure to perform or no need to have any theatre experience.
