Some great news for women’s health: from 2026 routine NHS checks for women aged 40-74 will now include questions about menopause and perimenopause.
This change means that symptoms like hot flushes, sleep disturbance, mood changes or brain fog can be discussed as part of the check up, helping women to access support earlier and normalising the conversation around menopause and the symptoms that may come with it.
Women are encouraged to prepare for the check up by noting any changes in periods, sleep, mood or memory and to speak openly with their GP. This is a welcome step towards better visibility, support and understanding of women’s health in midlife.
