Bone and joint health during menopause
Our bones are living tissue, constantly changing and responding to what we ask of them. Oestrogen helps keep them strong and protected, so when levels begin to drop during menopause, bones can lose density more quickly. This often happens quietly and without any obvious symptoms, until a problem appears. Understanding bone health at this stage of life is empowering - not frightening. It gives you the opportunity to take action early, support your body naturally and build strength that protects your independence, confidence and long term wellbeing.

As oestrogen levels fall, the body loses some of it's natural anti-inflammatory support. This can leave joints feeling stiff, achy and slower to recover, especially in the shoulders, hips, knees and hands. Many women notice pain first thing in the morning or after sitting for long periods of time. Gentle movement, stretching and regular strength training can help lubricate the joints, improve flexibility and reduce discomfort over time. Joint pain during menopause is common and very real but it doesn't mean that your body is failing - it's simply asking for some gentle movement.

Oestrogen plays a vital role in keeping our bones strong and dense.
When levels drop, bone density loss can speed up which in turn increases the risk of osteoporosis and fractures. This change is silent and often unnoticed until later on in life.
Weight bearing exercise, strength training and good nutrition help to stimulate bone growth and slow down bone density loss, protecting your long term mobility and independence.

Everyday habits that protect your bones
Small daily choices can make a big difference to your bone health. Regular movement, especially walking and strength based exercise, helps keep bones active and responsive. A diet rich in calcium, vitamin D and protein supports bone structure and repair. Getting outside for natural light, prioritising sleep and managing stress all play a role in keeping your body balanced and resilient. Reducing smoking and limiting alcohol can further protect bone density.
Bone health isn't just about exercise - it's also about creating a lifestyle that can consistently support your body to stay strong from the inside out.
