Looking after your mental wellbeing during the menopause

This month Menopaus'ull is shining a light on mental health during menopause - a topic often overlooked but vitally important. While hot flushes and physical symptoms get plenty of attention, the emotional impact can be just as challenging. Fluctuating hormones can affect mood, sleep, focus and self - esteem sometimes leaving us feeling unlike ourselves.

You are not alone in this. By talking openly sharing experiences and exploring practical tools, we can help support each other through the emotional ups and downs of menopause. Whether you're navigating anxiety, brain fog or low mood remember that there is no right or wrong way to feel - every journey is unique.

At Menopaus'ull we believe that understanding and supporting your mental health and wellbeing is just as important as looking after your physical health. Together we can make this transition a time of empowerment, connection and self-care.

1

Keep on moving!

Exercise isn't just beneficial for your physical health, it releases endorphins, improves sleep and can boost your mood. You don't need to run marathons - a daily walk, yoga, swimming or dancing in your kitchen can really help to make a difference to your mood and health. Movement helps to regulate stress hormones and provides a healthy outlet for frustration or anxiety. Even short bursts of activity can help you feel more grounded, energised and positive throughout the day.

2

Make sleep a priority

Menopause can bring sleepless nights, early waking, broken sleep and difficulty drifting off. Sleep is essential for emotional balance and mental clarity, so focus on creating a calming bedtime routine and make your bedroom feel like your sanctuary. Switch off devices an hour before bed, keep your bedroom cool and try relaxation techniques like gentle stretching or deep breathing. Avoid caffeine late in the day and limit alcohol, as these can disrupt sleep quality. Quality rest helps you to start each day feeling more calm and clear.

3

Stay connected with those around you

Isolation can make feelings of stress, anxiety or low mood harder to manage. Regular connection, whether in person, online or over the phone, provides emotional support and reminds you that you are not going through this alone. Sharing your experiences can bring relief, strengthen friendships and create a sense of belonging. Whether its joining us here at Menopaus'ull at an event, or chatting to a trusted family member or friend, staying connected can be a lifeline for emotional wellbeing.
