What is Premature Ovarian Insufficiency?
|
|
Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI) is a condition where the ovaries stop working as they should, usually before the age of 40.
|
|
|
|

Your ovaries no longer produce normal amounts of oestrogen and therefore may not produce eggs. This means that your periods stop (or become irregular) and you may experience symptoms of the menopause at a much earlier age.
|
|

POI can be caused by many factors such as:
|
- Chemotherapy or radiation therapy
|
- Surgical removal of the
|
|

Understanding the underlying cause of POI is key to the management of the condition. In many cases HRT can be prescribed to help restore estrogen levels and reduce any long term health risks.
